Farmers harvesting vegetables with solar panels on water in a rural setting.

Financial support

Across South Africa and beyond, farmers are facing increasing pressure from rising energy costs, water scarcity, and climate change. These challenges threaten agricultural productivity, food security, and the resilience of rural communities. The Solar Drift Project is working to explore and advance floating solar energy solutions that can generate clean energy on water bodies while protecting valuable agricultural land and water resources. Floating solar technology has the potential to operate at the water–energy–food nexus, helping to reduce water evaporation, produce renewable electricity, and support climate-resilient farming systems. Your support helps us move this vision forward.

Why does your support matter?

We are an independent initiative focused on advancing sustainable solutions for agriculture and water management. With the support of donors and partners, we aim to:

• Conduct research and feasibility assessments for floating solar systems
• Explore solutions that benefit both farmers and surrounding communities
• Promote climate-resilient agricultural practices
• Support knowledge sharing and collaboration across sectors
• Build partnerships that accelerate sustainable energy innovation

Every contribution helps us take the next step toward implementing practical solutions that support farmers, communities, and the environment.
