Our Values

Our values provide the foundation for how we work, make decisions, build partnerships, and pursue responsible innovation. Rooted in integrity, accountability, environmental responsibility, and community empowerment, our values guide our efforts to advance floating solar across Africa. They reflect our commitment to expanding clean energy access, strengthening food systems, creating economic opportunities, and supporting community-led environmental stewardship and long-term climate resilience.

Our Personal Values

Our personal values define the standards of conduct expected of everyone representing or working with The SDP. They guide how we engage with communities, colleagues, partners, funders, researchers, and other stakeholders.

Integrity

We act honestly, ethically, and consistently. We communicate openly, honour our commitments, and uphold high professional and ethical standards, even when faced with difficult decisions.

Respect

We treat people, communities, cultures, knowledge systems, and diverse perspectives with dignity. We listen, engage constructively, and value the experiences and expertise of others.

Accountability

We take responsibility for our commitments, decisions, actions, and use of resources. We acknowledge mistakes, address concerns responsibly, and remain accountable for the quality and consequences of our work.

Collaboration

We share knowledge and work constructively across disciplines, sectors, and communities. We value collective effort and shared success over individual recognition.

Curiosity and adaptability

We embrace evidence, learning, new ideas, and different approaches. We question assumptions, learn from experience, and adapt as evidence, circumstances, and community needs evolve.

Our Organisational Values

Environmental stewardship

We pursue energy solutions that protect water, land, biodiversity, and ecosystems. We seek to reduce environmental pressures, avoid shifting impacts elsewhere, and identify, assess, and responsibly manage potential environmental consequences.

Scientific integrity and evidence-led action

We base our research, recommendations, tools, partnerships, and deployment decisions on credible evidence, appropriate data, transparent assumptions, and sound scientific practice. We openly communicate uncertainties and limitations.

Community empowerment and equity

We promote meaningful and fairly shared benefits through local participation, skills development, institutional strengthening, and opportunities for local ownership. We support communities as active partners while advancing clean energy access, livelihoods, food systems, and local economic opportunities.

Cross-sector partnership

We foster cooperation across energy, water, agriculture, research, government, communities, finance, industry, and civil society. Our partnerships are built on shared outcomes, complementary expertise, mutual respect, and clear expectations.

Responsible governance and transparency

We remain accountable to the communities, partners, funders, and environments affected by our work. We manage resources responsibly and proportionately, maintain appropriate oversight, and communicate decisions, responsibilities, risks, and outcomes transparently.

Long-term sustainability and resilience

We pursue solutions that deliver lasting environmental, social, technical, and economic value beyond individual projects or funding cycles. We strengthen local capacity and support adaptable systems that contribute to long-term climate resilience.

Innovation and learning

We test, evaluate, learn, and adapt. We pursue innovation informed by evidence, emerging technologies, local conditions, and community and ecosystem needs.
